What is gravity?

Gravity, we feel its effects everyday and have studied it as a race for centuries. But what really is gravity, what does it do and how does it really function.

Most of you probably already know that gravity is an attractive force, it is what keeps us on Earth's surface. Newton was the first to define gravity by using masses and distance to make the famous universal gravitation equation.

Despite his efforts, Newton was wrong conceptually but that is a topic for a different blog (Einstein's relativity).
Back to the main topic, so what is gravity; it is a weak  attractive force that's effects are mainly present on orbital systems such as stars, planets and galaxies. The source of gravity originates from mass and its ability to warp space time. That sounds like a lot, but is actually really simple. Space-time is our 3 dimensions of space fused with the time. Consider placing balls of various masses on the sheet and seeing how each mass causes a bigger curvature ( the curve it creates on the sheet ). That is exactly how gravity works; bigger weights exert a greater force on smaller masses. That is exactly how gravity works, larger masses have larger force and will effect smaller masses. An example of the effects are the planets' orbits around stars.

Final Thoughts

Let me confess: I lied about gravity. Gravity is the curvature formed by masses; lesser masses just follow the curvature created by the bigger mass and are NOT attracted to the body. Gravity is actually a lot more complicated and lots of weird phenomena such as time dilations, but that's a topic for another blog. I hope you're all doing well, and stay safe.
